About Egg White Protein

How much protein in 1 egg white?

According to the USDA, there are 3.6 grams of protein in one egg white. Egg white is the protective liquid around the egg yolk which creates a barrier between a developing chick and harmful bacteria. The egg white consists of 90% water and around 10% different proteins. Egg white is low calorie and contains almost no fat or carbohydrates. Typically, an RXBAR is made with three egg whites and a variety of protein containing nuts and contains 12 grams of protein amounting to between 18% and 23% of your daily protein requirement, depending on the flavor. RX Nut Butters are made with one egg white, and all flavors contain 8-9 grams of protein, amounting to between 10% and 14% of your recommended daily value. All flavors of RX AM Oats cups are made with one egg white, and all contain 12 grams of protein, amounting to between 18% and 19% of your recommended daily value. Full dietary and nutrition information for all RX products can be found on our What’s Inside page.

What is egg white protein?

Egg white protein is made from dried egg whites that have been turned into a powder. (At RXBAR we include the whole egg white, not just the protein). In accordance with US law, our egg whites are pasteurized and inspected by the USDA. At RXBAR we love egg white because it is such a high-quality protein - one that contains all your body’s essential amino acids that also leaves out unwanted fat and carbohydrates. Egg white protein has a PDCAAS score of 1.0, the highest possible score. PDCAAS stands for Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score. Having a score of 1.0 on the PDCAAS scale means that egg white protein after digestion provides 100% of essential amino acids.

How is egg white powder made?

First the egg whites and egg yolks are separated from each other at an industrial facility which we purchase from. Then the liquid egg whites are pasteurized to ensure quality. The egg whites are pasteurized at temperature high enough to sanitize them but low enough not to cook them. Once the egg whites are pasteurized, they are spray-dried into a powder which is the base egg white powder used in all RX products.

Do all RX products contain egg whites?

RX products including RXBARs and RX Nut Butters contain at least one whole egg white.
